Third Croatian Festival of Jams and Marmalades
The Third Croatian Festival of Jams and Marmalades was held on October 3rd and 4th, at Luža square in Dubrovnik. Festival was organized by DEŠA-Dubrovnik and the association „Dubrovačka naranča“. The „sweet Festival“, that reached the international level this year, attracted great number of domestic and foreign visitors. This cultural manifestation contributes to the affirmation of cultural tradition, customs and traditional products which, in this way, become a gastronomic souvenir, but also an additional tourist offer of the City of Dubrovnik. The manifestation was opened by State Secretary Mr. Tonci Bozanic from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Rural Development, which is also a sponsor of the Festival.
A total of 18 exhibitors from all over Croatia and one exhibitor from Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered this year. All of the exhibitors were dressed in national costumes of their region and in this way they presented their customs and show the part of their cultural identity.
First day of the festival, the October 3rd, while we had the cultural and sweet program at Luza Square, the special jury, constituted of prof. Vlasta Piližota and prof. Ljiljana Primorac from the Faculty of Food Technology from Osijek and prof. Verica Uzelac and prof. Branka Levaj from the Faculty of Food, technology and biotechnology and Mr. Josip Žuvela, the proffessor in culinary art from Dubrovnik, was working at DESA's premises. Amongst 65 "nominees", the special jury evaluated products in three categories.
In the category of jam 41 product was in competition, while the marmalade and pekmez competed in 12 products. The special jury was working all day, from 9 a.m. to 07:30 p.m. and the results of sensory evaluation of jams and marmalades are as follows:
